Gujarat Teen's Pregnancy Leads to Rape Case Against Father's Colleague
In a distressing incident from Gir Somnath district, Gujarat, a 17-year-old girl was discovered to be three months pregnant following a medical examination prompted by persistent vomiting. This revelation has led to the filing of a rape complaint against a 25-year-old man, who is a colleague of the girl's father, at the Gir Gadhada police station.
Arrest and Legal Charges
The accused has been formally booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, specifically Sections 64(2)(I), 64(2)(M), and 351(3), in addition to relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. Gir Gadhada police took swift action, arresting the suspect on Sunday. He was subsequently produced in court on Monday, where he was remanded to judicial custody, pending further legal proceedings.
Details of the Allegations
In her official complaint, the minor victim stated that she had known the accused for over a year. She alleged that, over the past six months, he repeatedly took her to various locations and engaged in non-consensual physical relations with her. The girl further claimed that the accused threatened to kill both her and her father if she ever disclosed the incidents to anyone, creating an atmosphere of fear and coercion.
Investigation and Evidence Collection
N A Vaghela, the in-charge police inspector of Gir Gadhada police station, provided insights into the investigation. He mentioned that the accused was successfully traced using a combination of human intelligence and advanced technical surveillance methods. Police have also collected all necessary evidence to support the case, ensuring a robust legal framework for prosecution.
Medical Examination and Disclosure
According to police sources, the girl had been experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, and vomiting for the past two to three months. Her family initially sought medical treatment for these ailments. However, a detailed medical examination conducted last week confirmed the pregnancy. When confronted by her family about the situation, the girl courageously disclosed the alleged rape, leading to the formal complaint.
Current Condition and Treatment
The minor victim, who is engaged in labour and household work, was initially admitted to Veraval Hospital for medical care. She has since been shifted to Junagadh for further specialized treatment, highlighting the ongoing efforts to address her health and well-being in the aftermath of this traumatic event.
