Gurgaon police have announced major traffic diversions for heavy vehicles ahead of the Republic Day 2026 parade rehearsals. Authorities will redirect all heavy commercial vehicles passing through the city towards Delhi via the KMP Expressway. This measure aims to ensure smooth traffic movement and foolproof security during the important national event.
Diversion Dates and Security Preparations
The traffic diversion will be strictly enforced on two specific dates. First, on January 22, 2026, when initial rehearsals will take place. Second, on January 26 itself, which is Republic Day. Police officials explained that these restrictions will ease congestion on key arterial roads connecting Gurgaon with the national capital. The diversions also facilitate comprehensive security arrangements throughout the district.
Police Coordination and Traffic Management
DCP (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan personally briefed truck union drivers about the new advisory. He appealed to all heavy vehicle operators to strictly follow the guidelines. This cooperation is essential to maintain smooth traffic arrangements across Gurgaon during this period.
Police authorities confirmed they will establish multiple traffic checkpoints at strategic locations throughout the city. Heavy vehicle drivers received specific instructions not to park their vehicles on roads. They must use only designated safe parking areas to prevent any obstruction to regular traffic flow.
Security Readiness and Inter-City Coordination
Meanwhile, DCP Headquarters Arpit Jain stated that Gurgaon police are fully prepared to ensure security during the Republic Day events. "We have already conducted a coordination meeting with our Delhi counterparts," Jain revealed. "Our teams remain vigilant to ensure complete security and avoid any untoward situations."
Jain emphasized that heavy vehicles will face complete restrictions on key roads in Gurgaon during the specified dates. "Maximum police deployment will be carried out on Republic Day," he confirmed. Traffic police have made repeated appeals to heavy vehicle drivers to follow all traffic rules diligently during this period.
The comprehensive security plan includes close monitoring of all entry and exit points. Police are coordinating with multiple agencies to create a seamless security blanket. This approach addresses both traffic management and overall safety concerns for the Republic Day celebrations.
