Gurgaon Extortion Duo Targets Businesses in Faridabad Shooting Spree
In a brazen series of criminal acts, two men unleashed a wave of terror in Faridabad on Saturday night, opening fire at two separate locations and leaving behind extortion demands. The incidents, which occurred within a span of approximately 30 minutes in the Sadar police station area, have sent shockwaves through the local business community and prompted a swift police response.
Chronology of the Night's Events
The first attack unfolded around 11 PM when two bike-borne youths arrived at a liquor shop situated in Chandawali village. According to police reports, one of the assailants fired a single round into the air or towards the premises, though no injuries were reported. The attackers then confronted the salesman on duty, issuing a chilling ultimatum.
"They demanded a 10% share from the liquor business and explicitly warned that liquor shops would not be permitted to operate in Faridabad if their demand was ignored," a senior police officer disclosed. "The staffers were told in no uncertain terms that the consequences would be severe if they failed to comply."
Second Target: Property Dealer's Office
Roughly half an hour later, at around 11:30 PM, the same duo struck again, this time targeting the office of property dealer Vinod Bhati in Machchhar village. Mirroring their earlier modus operandi, they fired one round outside the premises before fleeing the scene. However, they left behind a more tangible threat—an extortion slip demanding a staggering sum of Rs 50 lakh.
The slip contained a direct threat to Bhati, warning of dire consequences if the money was not paid promptly. Bhati, who was at his residence during the incident, was alerted by locals about the firing. He subsequently rushed to the spot and formally lodged a complaint with the police.
Police Investigation and Suspect Identification
Law enforcement authorities have moved quickly in response to these alarming events. Police have identified the two primary suspects as Anil and Manish. Anil, who hails from the Chandawali–Machchhar area, is reportedly a known criminal with multiple cases already registered against him. Similarly, Vinod Bhati, the targeted property dealer, also has a history of criminal cases filed in his name.
In the wake of the attacks, separate cases have been registered for both incidents under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Special investigation teams have been constituted with the explicit mandate to track down and apprehend the accused individuals. The police are currently pursuing several leads and are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity to piece together the sequence of events and identify potential accomplices.
Broader Implications and Community Concerns
This twin shooting incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of business establishments in the region. The audacity of the attackers, who operated with apparent impunity, highlights potential vulnerabilities in local law enforcement patrols and response mechanisms. Business owners, particularly those in the liquor and real estate sectors, are now on high alert, fearing that such extortion attempts could become more frequent.
The police have assured the public that they are treating this case with the utmost priority and are deploying additional resources to prevent any further incidents. They have also urged citizens to report any suspicious activities immediately and to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.
As the manhunt intensifies, the community awaits answers and justice, hoping that the swift action by authorities will restore a sense of security and deter future criminal endeavors of this nature.
