Gurgaon Police Register FIR After Mob Assaults Meghalaya Officers in Bid to Free Suspect
In a dramatic incident highlighting law enforcement challenges, an FIR has been officially registered against a group of individuals from Sikrawa village in Nuh, Gurgaon. The group is accused of launching a violent attack on a Meghalaya Police team and attempting to free an ATM robbery suspect from custody. The confrontation resulted in a youth sustaining a bullet injury to his leg, though he is reported to be in stable condition following medical treatment.
Details of the Violent Confrontation and Police Response
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Nuh) Ayush Yadav, the incident unfolded on Tuesday evening. The Meghalaya Police team had secured a transit remand for robbery accused Rahul Khan and arrived in Nuh's Wajidpur village to execute his arrest. Rahul Khan faces multiple robbery charges in Dwarka, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh, in addition to being sought by the Meghalaya Police's Special Cell for related offenses.
As the police vehicle neared Sikrawa village, close to the HR-93 Donga Hotel within the jurisdiction of the Pinangwa police station, Rahul Khan allegedly insisted that the vehicle be stopped. In a bold move, he grabbed the steering wheel in an attempt to overturn the vehicle and escape from custody. This action triggered a chaotic scene, with a crowd of approximately 20 to 30 people, including women, quickly gathering at the location and surrounding the police vehicle.
The mob attempted to snatch the car keys, physically assault the police personnel, and seize their weapons. With the situation escalating rapidly and posing a direct threat to their safety, the Meghalaya Police officers opened fire in self-defense to disperse the aggressive crowd. During the firing, Tareef Khan, a resident of Sikrawa village, sustained a bullet injury in his leg.
Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation Efforts
Tareef Khan was promptly transported to Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak for treatment, where his condition was stabilized. In the FIR, 12 individuals have been identified: Naseem, Farookh, Maimuna, Sahruni, Mustakeem, Sahid, Khuddi, Khalid, Bhuppat, Zafar, Tareef Khan, and Rahul. Police teams are actively working to trace the remaining, unidentified members of the mob involved in the incident.
Investigators have recovered critical evidence from the scene, including two empty cartridges, blood samples, and blood-stained clothing. The accused persons have been formally booked for obstructing government duty and under other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities are also examining video footage from the scene to aid in identifying all participants and building a comprehensive case.
