Gurgaon Lift Operator Assaulted by Residents Over Malfunction
Gurgaon Lift Operator Assaulted by Residents

A lift operator at Signature Global Orchard Avenue in Sector 93 was allegedly assaulted with sticks by a group of residents following a dispute over a lift malfunction on June 9 at 4:30 pm.

Incident Details

In his complaint, operator Gaurav Jha stated that he was servicing the lift of Tower B with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) team when he received a call informing that a lift in Tower I had stopped midway, trapping several people inside.

Jha rushed to Tower I and climbed the stairs to the seventh floor. By the time he arrived, the lift had restarted and reached the ground floor, allowing the occupants to exit.

A dispute then broke out between some residents and maintenance staff. Jha alleged that Bharat, a resident, his father Vivek, and others began abusing him over technical faults in the lift. When he tried to respond, they attacked him with sticks on his back, head, and eye, causing severe bleeding and serious eye injuries.

Police Response

Police said Jha was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where doctors conducted a medical examination. Due to the severity of the eye injury, he was referred to AIIMS Delhi for further treatment.

The estate manager of Signature Global Orchard Avenue, Vikas Upadhyay, submitted a complaint stating that Jha was assaulted while performing his duty.

An officer privy to the investigation said an FIR was registered against four individuals: Chandra Sekhar, Bharat, Vivek, and Sanjay.

“We are examining CCTV footage, medical documents, and witness statements to ascertain the sequence of events. Further action will be taken after the investigation,” the officer said.

Counter Complaint

The accused party also filed a complaint alleging that one of their family members suffered a serious finger injury. “We are analyzing the complaint. Further investigation is underway,” the officer stated.
