Gurgaon Man Arrested for Strangling Wife Over Phone Call

Gurgaon: A day after a man allegedly strangled his wife following a dispute that escalated into a violent altercation, he was arrested. Narendra Singh, 37, who works at a Maruti manufacturing facility in IMT Manesar, was taken into custody on Thursday.

Arrest and Background

Narendra was arrested near the KMP Expressway. A native of Nangla Davda village in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, he was currently residing in Hariya village in Manesar, an officer said. Narendra strangled Kajal Devi, 36, with a dupatta after he suspected her of speaking to another person over the phone. The dupatta allegedly used in the crime has been recovered.

Incident Details

Kajal was living with Narendra and their four children at a rented accommodation in Bas Hariya village under the IMT Manesar police station area. Police said the incident took place during the intervening night of June 3 and 4. According to a complaint filed by the woman's brother, Narendra used to assault Kajal over minor issues for some time and stopped providing financial support to the family, following which she began working at a private company.

On the night of the incident, he allegedly saw her talking to someone on the phone, leading to an argument between the couple, the complaint said. Information about the woman's death reached Sector 7 IMT Manesar police station on June 4, following which a police team reached the hospital where the body was taken and later inspected the crime scene. Senior officers and a forensic team collected evidence from the spot. Based on the complaint, a case of murder was registered against the accused.
