Gurgaon Tragedy: Man Strangles Wife, Dies by Suicide in Ambedkar Nagar
A horrific incident unfolded in Gurgaon's Ambedkar Nagar on Sunday evening, where a 30-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife to death before dying by suicide at their rented residence. The couple, identified as Sonam (28) and Deepak, originally hailed from Alwar in Rajasthan and had been married for approximately eight years, residing in the city for the past seven.
Child Unaware in Another Room During Incident
Their six-year-old son was present in another room at the time of the tragedy and remained unaware of the events that transpired. Police received information about the incident around 6:30 PM on April 19, prompting a swift response from the Sector 9A police station team, accompanied by crime scene and fingerprint experts.
Sister Discovers the Bodies After Returning from Work
Sonam's sister, who had been staying with the couple, had left for work around 4 PM. Upon her return at approximately 6 PM, she made the grim discovery: Sonam lying dead in the kitchen, while Deepak was found deceased in another room. The bodies were immediately transported to a civil hospital, where doctors formally declared them dead. Following autopsies, the remains were handed over to the grieving family.
History of Marital Disputes and Domestic Violence
Police spokesperson Sandeep Turan revealed that the couple had experienced frequent disputes, primarily centered around Deepak's drinking habits. About a month prior, Deepak had moved out following a quarrel, leading Sonam to invite her sister to stay with her for support. A relative of Sonam further alleged that Deepak had assaulted her last month and had previously attempted to strangle her, indicating a pattern of domestic violence.
Neighbors and Police Provide Additional Details
Deepak worked as a taxi driver, while Sonam was employed at a private company, according to police and neighbors. A neighbor recounted hearing the screams of Sonam's younger sister, who ran downstairs around 6 PM to raise the alarm. Another neighbor noted that the family resided alone on the first floor of a double-storey building, where they had lived for several years.
Police have registered a case of murder, and further investigation is currently underway to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
