Gurgaon Crime Branch Nabs Wanted Thief After High-Speed Motorcycle Pursuit
In a dramatic operation last week, the crime branch in Sohna, Gurgaon, successfully apprehended a 23-year-old man who was carrying a reward of Rs 5,000 on his head. The accused, identified as Shahrukh, is allegedly involved in more than three dozen theft cases across the region.
Chase and Capture Details
The arrest unfolded on the evening of February 7, around 9 pm, when police officers intercepted Shahrukh near Sohna Ghati. He was riding a motorcycle without a number plate, which immediately raised suspicions. When signaled to stop, Shahrukh allegedly accelerated in an attempt to flee, leading to a brief but intense chase covering nearly one kilometer.
During the pursuit, Shahrukh lost control of his motorcycle and fell, sustaining a leg injury. Police personnel quickly overpowered him at the scene. A subsequent search revealed a country-made pistol and a live cartridge in his possession, prompting the registration of a case under the Arms Act at the City Sohna police station.
Medical Treatment and Formal Arrest
Due to the injury sustained in the fall, Shahrukh was immediately admitted to the government hospital in Sector 10 for medical attention. He remained under police supervision during his hospitalization. After being discharged on February 15, he was formally arrested and taken into custody for further interrogation.
Investigation Insights and Criminal Modus Operandi
According to police statements, Shahrukh was conducting reconnaissance in the area at the time of his arrest, allegedly scouting for potential theft targets. Investigators revealed that he typically operated alone but had connections to a receiver from a nearby locality, who is currently being traced by authorities.
Shahrukh's criminal activities primarily targeted shops in Bhondsi, Badshapur, and Sohna. His method involved:
- Climbing onto rooftops of commercial establishments.
- Cutting through roofs to gain unauthorized entry.
- Stealing cash, valuables, and other items from the premises.
- Removing Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) to destroy CCTV evidence and avoid detection.
Police suspect that the motorcycle used during the chase is stolen property, as its chassis number had been deliberately erased. A thorough investigation is ongoing to verify this and uncover further details about his criminal network.
Background and Daily Activities
Interestingly, Shahrukh maintained a dual life, working as an e-rickshaw driver during the day. Investigators claim he used this cover to survey target shops two to three times, carefully planning his thefts under the guise of routine transportation services. This strategy allowed him to blend into the local environment while gathering critical information for his illegal activities.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough for the Gurgaon police, who have been tracking multiple theft cases in the area. Authorities are now focusing on apprehending the receiver linked to Shahrukh and recovering any stolen goods still in circulation.
