Gurgaon Police Encounter Leaves Notorious Criminal Injured in Sohna

A 30-year-old history-sheeter, wanted in numerous theft and arms-related cases, sustained injuries during a dramatic police encounter in Gurgaon's Sohna area late Wednesday night. The incident unfolded during what authorities describe as an attempted robbery, resulting in a violent confrontation between the suspect and law enforcement officers.

Violent Confrontation During Police Chase

The accused individual, identified as Rashid, was riding a motorcycle without registration plates when he encountered a police blockade near Raipur Naka. A specialized team from Sohna's Crime Branch, under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Vinay Kumar, had established the checkpoint after receiving specific intelligence about Rashid's movements in the area.

When officers attempted to intercept the suspect during the blockade, Rashid accelerated his motorcycle at high speed toward the Sohna-Alwar Road in a desperate attempt to evade capture. During the ensuing chase, the motorcycle skidded near the Old Sohna-Alwar Road, close to the Raipur Naka cremation ground.

Dangerous Exchange of Gunfire

After abandoning his motorcycle, Rashid attempted to escape on foot while firing two rounds directly at the pursuing police team. One bullet struck the bumper of a government vehicle, while another passed perilously close to Sub-Inspector Vinay Kumar. Despite repeated warnings and a warning shot fired into the air by police personnel, the accused continued his aggressive flight.

"The police team was compelled to fire in self-defence following the suspect's dangerous actions," explained a police spokesperson. "A retaliatory bullet struck the accused in his left leg, causing him to fall to the ground, where he was subsequently overpowered and apprehended by officers."

Comprehensive Forensic Investigation

Following the encounter, authorities conducted an extensive forensic examination of the crime scene. Specialized teams including fingerprint experts, forensic science laboratory personnel, and scene-of-crime unit investigators meticulously documented evidence from the location.

From the encounter site, police recovered significant evidence including the suspect's motorcycle, one pistol, and four shell cartridges. The investigation confirmed that a total of four rounds were discharged during the confrontation—two fired by the accused and two by police personnel.

Criminal Background and Legal Proceedings

Preliminary verification of police records reveals that Rashid, a native of Rajasthan's Deeg district, has an extensive criminal history. The accused is reportedly involved in approximately ten criminal cases related to theft and violations of the Arms Act across multiple districts including Nuh, Gurgaon, and Faridabad.

Rashid is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital for his leg injury. Authorities have registered a formal case at the City Bhondsi police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of attempted murder, firing at police personnel, and obstruction of government duty.

"The accused will be formally arrested in this case following his discharge from medical care," confirmed a police officer involved in the investigation. "Our inquiry into all aspects of this incident remains ongoing and thorough."

Police Commitment to Public Safety

A police spokesperson emphasized the department's unwavering commitment to maintaining public security in the region. "Under the guidance of Gurgaon's Commissioner of Police, public safety remains our absolute top priority," the spokesperson stated. "We maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward criminals who threaten law and order or attack police personnel performing their duties."

The Gurgaon Police Department has reiterated its dedication to proactive measures against criminal elements, particularly those with established histories of violent offenses. This encounter represents the latest in ongoing efforts to address serious crime in the metropolitan region surrounding India's national capital.
