Tragic Accident Claims Life of Gurgaon Shopkeeper During Signboard Installation
A 51-year-old shopkeeper lost his life in a tragic accident on Saturday afternoon in the Jacobpura area of Gurgaon. The victim, identified as Satish Sahni, fell from the second floor of a building while installing a large advertising signboard for his gift shop on Railway Road.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred around 2:15 PM when Sahni was attempting to adjust the direction of the newly made signboard, which measured 10 by 18 feet. According to police officers, strong wind pressure over the past few days played a significant role in the accident. "There was a lot of wind pressure for the past two-three days, and during the incident, he could not handle the pressure from the wind," an officer stated.
Sahni, a resident of Subhash Nagar, had decided to install the signboard himself to save approximately Rs 6,000 in labour costs. He was assisted by his younger brother and a neighbour during the installation process. Unfortunately, while adjusting the board, he lost his balance and fell onto the first floor of a neighbouring building.
Immediate Response and Aftermath
Upon hearing the commotion, his brother and the neighbour rushed to his aid. They brought him down and transported him to a nearby hospital in an autorickshaw. However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead upon arrival.
The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination. Police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and confirmed that no foul play is suspected in the case. The investigation highlights the dangers of DIY installations during adverse weather conditions.

This unfortunate event has sent shockwaves through the local community in Gurgaon, raising concerns about safety protocols for such tasks. Authorities urge residents to prioritize professional assistance for hazardous activities, especially during periods of high wind or inclement weather.
