In a startling case from Gurgaon, four college students turned to a life of crime to finance their nightlife and clubbing adventures, only to be caught by the police. The group, united by old school ties and a desire for party funds, embarked on a series of car tyre thefts across the city's residential sectors.
The Midnight Operation
The friends, identified as Rishikesh, Arjun, Piyush Rana, and Tushar Kumar, executed a meticulously planned operation over three months. They would cruise through Gurgaon after midnight in a blue Maruti Suzuki Fronx, owned by Arjun, targeting parked cars. Armed with jacks and specialised tools, they swiftly lifted vehicles, removed tyres and rims, and left the cars propped up on bricks before escaping with their loot.
Police officials stated the gang followed the same quiet and quick pattern each time to avoid detection. The students confessed to at least 14 thefts, all motivated by a need for cash after their families cut off their pocket money. Their sole aim was to raise funds for clubbing and parties.
From Classroom to Crime: The Students' Background
The backgrounds of the four accused are as diverse as their misguided ambitions. Arjun is a BA LLB student at Baba Mastnath University. Rishikesh is preparing for a Chartered Accountancy (CA) course. Meanwhile, Piyush and Tushar are pursuing BCom degrees at Gurgaon University and DSD College, respectively. All four hail from Jharsa and were classmates at Atul Memorial School, growing up together.
According to the police, the inspiration for their criminal activities came directly from popular films. A senior officer remarked that movies like Dhoom, Fast and Furious, and Money Heist influenced them. He emphasised that the students failed to grasp that in reality, crime leads only to punishment, urging youth to work hard instead of following such cinematic paths.
The Arrest and Aftermath
The gang's run ended on Friday when a crime branch team led by Inspector Narendra Kumar Sharma arrested them in Sector 49, acting on specific intelligence. Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar confirmed the arrest, stating the four would be produced in court to seek remand for further questioning and to recover the stolen tyres.
Authorities are now tracing the chain of the stolen goods, reaching out to buyers who purchased the tyres. One unnamed buyer expressed regret, claiming they had no idea the tyres were stolen and were merely looking for a good deal.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of choosing quick, illegal gains over honest effort, especially for students whose careers now hang in the balance.
