Gurgaon Traffic Police Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Parking with Specialised Tow Cranes
In a decisive move to combat traffic congestion, the Gurgaon traffic police have announced a rigorous crackdown on illegal parking across the city. Starting from February 17, specialised tow cranes will be deployed in both East and West zones to remove vehicles parked in no-parking areas or obstructing public roads. This initiative, launched in coordination with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), aims to reclaim road space, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure smoother traffic flow for daily commuters who often face significant delays due to unauthorised parking.
Strict Enforcement and Penalty Structure
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Mohan stated that the campaign was planned after continuous monitoring of traffic hotspots and numerous complaints from residents about congestion caused by illegally parked vehicles. Authorities have warned that vehicles found violating parking rules will be towed immediately without prior notice. The penalty structure is designed to deter offenders: first-time offenders will face a total fine of Rs 1,500, which includes a Rs 1,000 crane charge and a Rs 500 no-parking challan. Repeat offenders will incur a higher penalty of Rs 2,500, with an enhanced fine component to discourage habitual violations.
Designated Locations for Towed Vehicles
To streamline the process for vehicle owners, the police have identified specific locations where towed vehicles will be deposited. In the East Zone, enforcement will focus on high-traffic areas such as Sector 29, Sector 44, Sector 51, the Medanta area, and the AIT Road/Golf Course Road/IILM University region. Vehicles removed from these zones will be shifted to designated parking points, including near Kingdom of Dreams (Uber Parking), Apparel House, Women's Police Station Sector 51, the Medanta Hospital vicinity, and near AIT Chowk.
In the West Zone, areas like Sadar Bazar, Old Mehrauli Road, Sector 14 market, Sanath Road, Passport Office Road, the Kanya Vishwavidyalaya area, and Sector 83/Sapphire Mall will be covered. Towed vehicles from these locations will be moved to Session House Parking, the Atul Kataria area, the 24x7 booth near Highway Atlas Chowk, Gaushala Ground parking, and near Police Station Kherki Daula.
Goals and Public Appeal
Traffic police officials emphasised that this drive is intended to improve discipline on roads and save commuters' valuable time by preventing unnecessary jams. They urged citizens to use designated parking spaces, follow traffic rules responsibly, and cooperate with enforcement teams. By doing so, residents can help make Gurgaon's roads safer and more commuter-friendly, contributing to a better urban environment for all.
The crackdown reflects a proactive approach to urban management, addressing long-standing issues of traffic chaos and illegal parking that have plagued the city. With the deployment of tow cranes and strict penalties, authorities hope to instil a culture of compliance and enhance overall traffic efficiency in Gurgaon.
