Tragic Gurgaon Accident Claims Life of Truck Driver
A devastating road accident in Gurgaon has resulted in the death of a 38-year-old truck driver, who succumbed to injuries after being trapped inside the mangled cabin of his vehicle. The fatal collision occurred near Bilaspur Chowk on February 21, when the victim's truck crashed into the rear of a speeding dumper that abruptly stopped ahead of him.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to the complaint filed at Bilaspur police station, the deceased, identified as Umesh Kumar from Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh, was driving his truck from Delhi to Bhiwadi. Around 4:40 AM, as he approached Bilaspur Chowk, a dumper truck moving at high speed suddenly applied brakes and came to a halt. Umesh could not control his vehicle in time and collided with the dumper's rear.
The impact was severe enough to trap Umesh inside the cabin with serious injuries. While trapped, he managed to call his employer, Praveen Yadav, to inform him about the accident and his severely injured legs. "After receiving the call, I immediately reached the spot where our truck was parked on the roadside, but the driver was already being taken to a nearby hospital," said Praveen, who resides in Rajasthan.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Following the accident, the dumper driver fled the scene with his vehicle, leaving Umesh trapped. A passer-by alerted the police control room about the incident. Umesh was initially admitted to a private hospital near Bilaspur Chowk before being transferred to hospitals in Rewari and Jaipur due to his critical condition.
His family reached the Jaipur hospital, where he ultimately died during treatment at SMS Trauma Centre on February 22. The victim's employer, Praveen Yadav, filed a formal complaint on Friday, citing that both he and Umesh's family were too traumatized by the death to lodge an immediate report.
Police have registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the unidentified dumper driver. An officer confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and trace the dumper driver through technical intelligence, with further investigation in progress.
Background of the Victim
Umesh Kumar worked as a driver for transporter Praveen Yadav. The accident highlights ongoing road safety concerns in the Gurgaon area, particularly involving commercial vehicles. The case underscores the tragic consequences of rash driving and the challenges in holding fleeing drivers accountable.
As authorities continue their investigation, the community mourns the loss of a hardworking individual whose life was cut short in a preventable collision. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving and prompt emergency response in accident situations.
