Gurgaon Woman Found Dead in Suspected Murder Case, Husband Booked
A tragic incident has shaken the community in Gurgaon, where a 23-year-old woman, identified as Rashmi, was found dead in Rampura village of Kherki Daula on Sunday. Following the discovery, the police have registered a murder case against her husband, Sunil Kumar, amid serious allegations of dowry harassment and domestic violence.
Details of the Incident and Police Action
The couple, who got married in 2019, resided in a rented house in the Lala Ki Dhani area of Rampura. Sunil Kumar, who worked as a security guard at a private company in the city, had left his job approximately 10 days before the incident. The case came to light when Rashmi's brother, Mahendra Singh, received a call from Sunil at 11:22 AM, informing him that Rashmi had hanged herself.
Mahendra, along with his wife, rushed to the couple's residence and found Rashmi lying unresponsive on a bed with a scarf tied around her neck. He reported that her body had turned blue and showed no signs of life, indicating she had been dead for some time. Based on the family's complaint, an FIR has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Kherki Daula police station, and a thorough investigation is currently underway.
Allegations of Dowry Harassment and Abuse
Mahendra Singh, who also works as a security officer and lives barely 5 kilometers away from the couple's house, alleged that Sunil repeatedly assaulted Rashmi over dowry demands, leading to frequent quarrels. He expressed shock, stating, "Sunil also worked with me but left his job around 10 days ago. I never imagined I would receive such news."
Another relative, Neeraj Kumar, added that Sunil's family had been persistently demanding a bike, cash, and cattle, and had allegedly threatened to kill Rashmi if these demands were not met. Relatives further claimed that Rashmi often returned to her parental home in Uttar Pradesh due to the ongoing harassment and physical abuse. "At times, he would beat her and leave her at her parents' house. She mostly stayed there. After Holi, they came back to Gurgaon, and Sunil assured that things would be fine, but within days, this incident happened," a relative recounted.
Additional Accusations and Community Impact
The family has also accused Sunil of stealing Rashmi's gold jewellery and mobile phone after her death, adding to the gravity of the case. This incident highlights the persistent issue of dowry-related violence in India, raising concerns about women's safety and legal enforcement. The local community in Gurgaon is reeling from the shock, as such cases continue to underscore the need for stricter measures against domestic abuse and dowry crimes.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are focusing on gathering evidence and statements from witnesses to ensure justice is served. The case serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of dowry harassment and the urgent need for societal change to protect vulnerable individuals.
