A 24-year-old man died after a tanker truck coming from the wrong side collided head-on with his motorcycle near Lemon Tree hotel in Sector 60, Gurgaon. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when Priyanshu Yadav (24) was riding home on his Yamaha R15. The tanker entered the wrong carriageway through a divider cut and crashed into him.
Victim's Background
Originally from Balrampur in Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, Priyanshu lived in a rented accommodation in Noida with his elder brother. He worked in Gurgaon and was returning home when the accident happened.
Complaint and FIR
In his complaint lodged at Sector 65 police station, Priyanshu's father, Arjun Yadav, stated that the tanker (registration number HR55AE/0945) was being driven rashly, negligently, and at high speed. "The driver suddenly came from the wrong side through a gap in the divider and directly collided with my son's bike," he mentioned in the FIR.
Police said Priyanshu suffered severe injuries to the head and limbs. An emergency response vehicle first alerted the police control room about the accident, after which ASI Suresh Kumar and constable Satendra Kumar reached the spot and found him lying unconscious on the road. He was taken by an ambulance to a government hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Driver Flees
The tanker driver fled, leaving the vehicle behind. Police seized both vehicles from the spot. Priyanshu's mobile phone was found damaged at the scene. To trace his family, police removed the SIM card and inserted it into another handset. Soon after, they received a call from his elder brother, Prashant Yadav, and informed him about the accident.
The family did not immediately file a complaint as they wanted Priyanshu's father to reach Gurgaon from Uttar Pradesh first. "They arrived on Friday afternoon, after which we received the complaint and registered a case. The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Saturday," a police officer said.
Legal Action
An FIR was registered against the unidentified tanker driver under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and Section 106 for causing death by negligence. "We will send a notice to the truck owner and arrest the driver soon," ASI Suresh said.
Ongoing Issue
Wrong-side driving continues to be a major road safety problem in the city. Police data for 2025 shows over 2 lakh motorists were fined for the offence through the year. Since January 1 this year, police have also begun filing criminal cases against gross violators, especially on key roads and highways.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules to prevent such accidents.
