Guwahati Family Confronts Midnight Death Threats in Property Dispute, Two Suspects Arrested

A tense and alarming situation unfolded in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati, Assam, during the early hours of Saturday, when a family alleged that miscreants attempted to forcibly enter their residence while issuing severe death threats. The incident has sparked significant concern and fear among local residents, prompting swift police action. Authorities confirmed that two persons have been arrested in connection with the case, with investigations actively underway to uncover further details.

Incident Details and Police Response

According to official police reports, the incident occurred on Pakiza Path in the Sijubari locality. The targeted family, led by Abdul Basid and his son Zahidul Islam, reported that the miscreants threatened to kill them, creating a highly volatile environment. The family immediately alerted officers at the Hatigaon Police Station, leading to a prompt response from law enforcement.

Hatigaon Police Station officer-in-charge Anjad Brahma stated that a formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "The situation is still not entirely clear, but preliminary findings suggest that the incident was triggered by a money dispute. We have so far arrested two persons in connection with the case. Arrests and Family Account

The arrested individuals have been identified as Matlib Ali and Bapukan Ali, who are alleged to have threatened Basid's family. In a detailed account, Zahidul Islam described the harrowing experience: "Both Matlib and Bapukan threatened my father over the phone, warning that they would kill him if he did not give up his property. Around midnight, some of their associates arrived at our residence and attempted to break down the front door but failed. Had they managed to enter, they would have killed my father and me."

Zahidul further clarified the financial context, noting, "We do owe them money, and we had already assured them of repayment, requesting more time." This statement highlights the underlying money dispute that police believe may have escalated into the violent threats and attempted break-in.

Community Impact and Ongoing Concerns

The incident has left the local community in Hatigaon on edge, with residents expressing heightened anxiety over safety and security in the area. Such events underscore broader issues related to property disputes and financial conflicts that can sometimes turn violent. Police authorities are continuing their investigations to determine if additional suspects were involved and to ensure that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.

As the situation develops, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent similar occurrences. The arrests mark a critical step in addressing the immediate threat, but the case remains open as law enforcement works to bring full clarity and justice to the affected family.
