Guwahati Police Cracks Down on Illegal Spa Operations, Rescues Multiple Victims
In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, Guwahati Police have successfully conducted coordinated raids on five unisex spa salons across the city, leading to the arrest of ten individuals and the rescue of thirteen victims allegedly involved in prostitution. The operations, which took place on January 20, were spearheaded by teams from multiple police stations, marking a decisive move against such illicit practices in the region.
Coordinated Police Action Across Multiple Locations
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shambhavi Mishra detailed that the raids were executed with precision by teams from Panbazar Police Station, Chandmari Police Station, Paltan Bazar Police Station, and Geetanagar Police Station. These operations targeted various locations under their respective jurisdictions, ensuring a comprehensive sweep of the suspected establishments.
"We have arrested 10 persons and rescued 13 victims in five separate cases," Mishra stated, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation. "This is an ongoing investigation, and such illegal activities will not be tolerated under the watch of Guwahati Police," she added, underscoring the police's commitment to maintaining law and order.
Recovery of Evidence and Victim Testimonies
During the raids, police recovered objectionable items that further substantiated the allegations of illegal activities. Mishra revealed that during questioning, several women associated with the spa centers disclosed that they had taken up the work due to severe financial hardship. Many of these women reportedly hailed from remote areas, seeking employment opportunities in the city.
In a particularly distressing case, Mishra noted that a family member of a spa owner, who was initially seeking a job, was allegedly coerced into the racket, highlighting the exploitative nature of such operations. This incident sheds light on the vulnerabilities faced by individuals in desperate economic situations.
Widespread Involvement and Ongoing Investigation
Police investigations have uncovered that a number of spa centers in Guwahati are involved in sex rackets, with some operations allegedly run by women owners. This revelation points to a broader network of illegal activities within the city's spa industry, necessitating continued vigilance and action.
Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is underway, with the possibility of more arrests in the near future. The police are determined to dismantle these networks and ensure that justice is served for the victims, while sending a strong message against such unlawful practices.
