Ballari: Police have launched a murder investigation after a 27-year-old diagnostic technician was discovered dead in a half-burnt condition near the LLC canal here. Investigators suspect the body was set on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Victim Identified
The deceased, Basavanagouda, was a resident of Bollanaguddam village in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district. His family alleged that unidentified assailants killed him and transported the body nearly 13 kilometers away before pouring petrol on it and setting it ablaze.
Rain Prevents Complete Burning
Police reported that rain is believed to have prevented the body from being completely burnt. The half-charred remains were spotted by staff working near the LLC canal, who alerted the Moka police. Officers conducted a preliminary inspection and launched a search of the surrounding area.
Evidence Recovered
Investigators later recovered Basavanagouda's motorcycle and a pair of slippers about 13 kilometers from the spot where the body was found, helping to establish his identity.
Suspected Motive
Based on preliminary findings and clues collected from the scene, police suspect the case may be linked to a love affair. However, they stated that the exact motive would be known only after a detailed investigation.
Family's Account
The victim's father, Mohanagouda, said the family learned about the incident on Monday afternoon after receiving a call from Basavanagouda's uncle. He stated that his son had informed family members before leaving home and later called his sister to say he would have dinner outside, after which his phone was switched off.
A case has been registered at Moka police station, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
