Hisar: The Hisar sessions court has sentenced Rahul alias Gogi, a resident of Barsi village, to life imprisonment for his role in the 2022 Hansi shooting case. Rahul was convicted on charges of murder, robbery, and illegal possession of arms. In addition to the life term, the court imposed a fine of Rs 1.80 lakh on him.
Acquittal of Co-Accused
The court acquitted Naveen Gautam of Patloni Baldev village in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, who was alleged to be the weapon supplier, along with a juvenile accused in the case. The acquittal was due to lack of sufficient evidence against them.
Court Observations
Additional Sessions Judge Alka Malik noted that the prosecution successfully proved that on April 6, 2022, Rahul entered Sandeep's shop with the intention of robbery. When the victim resisted, the accused fired a shot with the intent to kill. The bullet struck Sandeep in the pelvic region, resulting in his death later.
Regarding Naveen Gautam, the court observed that no direct or independent evidence was presented to demonstrate that he supplied the country-made pistol used in the crime. The court clarified that a conviction cannot be based solely on disclosure statements.
Prosecution Case
According to the prosecution, Sandeep was shot dead in the Hansi area on April 6, 2022. During the investigation, police recovered a pistol, cartridges, blood samples, and other forensic evidence from the crime scene. The post-mortem report and findings from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also played a crucial role during the trial.
The prosecution examined 20 witnesses, including doctors, forensic experts, police officials, and eyewitnesses. Based on the evidence and witness testimonies, the court held that the charges against Rahul were proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
