Hardoi Police Takes Action After Viral Video Exposes Assault Case

In a significant development in Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 12 named individuals and 60 unidentified persons in connection with an alleged case of sexual assault, robbery, and police negligence. The incident, which occurred in the Kachhauna police station area, has led to the suspension of the station house officer (SHO) and sparked widespread attention after a video of the assault went viral on social media.

Suspension of SHO and Registration of Fresh FIR

The station house officer of Kachhauna, inspector Nirbhay Singh, was suspended for allegedly registering an FIR in favour of the accused. According to police sources, the controversy began when a clash broke out between two groups in a village under the Kachhauna kotwali area on the evening of January 25. SHO Nirbhay Singh is accused of filing an FIR based on the statement of the accused party on January 26, which raised concerns about delay and bias in handling the case.

Following complaints and the circulation of a video depicting the assault, superintendent of police AK Meena intervened and ordered action against the SHO. On the SP's directions, the Kachhauna police registered a fresh FIR on January 28, this time based on the actual facts of the case. The new FIR names 12 accused individuals and 60 unidentified persons, with seven of the accused being arrested on Thursday evening as part of the ongoing investigation.

Details of the Alleged Assault and Robbery

The survivor, in her FIR, provided a harrowing account of the events. She alleged that on January 25, accused individuals Wahab and Rafeeq assaulted her with sticks. As she attempted to travel by car to lodge a complaint at the police station, her vehicle was intercepted by the perpetrators. During this confrontation, her husband was brutally beaten and sustained serious injuries, while accused Naseem allegedly sexually assaulted her.

In addition to the physical violence, the accused are said to have robbed Rs20,000 in cash and a gold chain from the car. Villagers who tried to intervene in the situation were also reportedly beaten, highlighting the severity of the incident. The emergence of a video on social media platforms played a crucial role in bringing the case to light, forcing the police to take swift action.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigations

Assistant superintendent of police (East) Subodh Gautam confirmed the arrests, stating that seven accused involved in the assault of the woman and her husband have been taken into custody. Raids are currently underway to apprehend the remaining accused individuals. The survivor had earlier alleged that her initial complaint was deliberately ignored by the authorities, underscoring the need for accountability and transparency in law enforcement procedures.

This case has drawn attention to issues of police negligence and the importance of timely action in sensitive matters. The suspension of SHO Nirbhay Singh and the registration of a comprehensive FIR reflect efforts to address the grievances and ensure justice for the victims. As the investigation progresses, authorities are focused on gathering evidence and bringing all perpetrators to book, with the viral video serving as a catalyst for renewed scrutiny and action in the Hardoi district.
