Major Liquor Haul in Haridwar During Anti-Encroachment Operation

In a significant enforcement action, authorities in Haridwar recovered more than 100 bottles of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from a makeshift hut during an anti-encroachment drive on Tuesday. The operation targeted the Rodibelwala area, located in close proximity to the revered Har-ki-Pauri ghat.

Discovery and Immediate Police Action

The illicit stash was discovered concealed inside a large trunk within the structure, which was subsequently demolished as part of the drive. Sanitation inspector Shrikant Chaudhary stated, "We found the trunk during the drive and informed police immediately." Following the discovery, law enforcement officials swiftly registered a case under the Excise Act against an unknown individual, as no one has come forward to claim ownership of the contraband.

Official Statements on Smuggling Patterns

SHO KS Rana provided insights into the ongoing battle against liquor smuggling in the region. He remarked, "Action is taken against liquor smugglers from time to time. They often use illegal settlements to evade raids." This incident underscores a persistent challenge for authorities in curbing illegal alcohol trade, particularly in areas surrounding the holy city.

Resident Concerns and Previous Incidents

Local residents have voiced strong concerns, alleging that illegal liquor sales continue unabated in various parts of Haridwar despite existing bans. Teerth purohit Ujjawal Pandit emphasized the impact on the city's sanctity, saying, "Such activities affect the sanctity of the holy city and called for strict action." This is not an isolated case; a similar drive recently led to the recovery of liquor from Rishikul Ground, a site annually used for Char Dham registration.

The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in Haridwar, with authorities remaining vigilant against activities that compromise the spiritual and legal integrity of the area.
