Haryana Man Held for Accepting Rs 4 Lakh in Extortion

In a significant breakthrough, the police have arrested a man for allegedly blackmailing a liquor businessman and demanding extortion money from him. The accused has been identified as Shiv Shakti Sahni, a resident of Rajasthan who currently resides in Sector 17, Jagadhri.

Arrest at Gymkhana Club

Ajay Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Chhappar police station, confirmed that the accused was arrested from Gymkhana Club in Jagadhri on Saturday while he was accepting extortion money of Rs 4 lakh from the complainant. A case has been registered against four individuals, including Shiv Sahni, based on the complaint filed by Vinay Sahni, a resident of Sector 12, Panchkula.

Details of the Complaint

According to police, Vinay Sahni alleged that the accused had been persistently harassing him through calls from different phone numbers regarding various issues. Following the complaint, a special team was constituted on the directions of senior police officials to investigate the matter.

The complainant stated that Shiv Sahni and one of his associates began filing false complaints against him and his acquaintances with various government departments. When questioned about these complaints, the accused demanded Rs 1 crore to withdraw them and threatened to destroy his business and cause him physical harm if the money was not paid.

During negotiations, the accused reduced the demand to Rs 72 lakh. Vinay alleged that he paid Rs 2.5 lakh to the accused on May 29 to safeguard his business and personal safety. Despite receiving this amount, the accused continued to demand the remaining money and threatened to damage his business.

Police Action

Police had been monitoring the accused's activities and arrested him at the moment when the complainant was handing over Rs 4 lakh at Gymkhana Club. The SHO stated that one accused has been arrested and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.

Defense by Accused's Family

Meanwhile, the accused's son, Naman Sahani, told media representatives that the matter pertains to a business transaction between the two parties. He alleged that the complainant had called his father for settlement of accounts and maintained that his father has been falsely implicated in the case. Police continue their investigation to bring all involved to justice.
