Tragic Suicide of Haryana Police ASI in Sonipat Government Quarters

A 45-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Haryana Police, identified as Jasbir Singh, has allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his service revolver at his government residence in Sonipat on Saturday night. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and police department.

Details of the Incident

Jasbir Singh, a resident of Sitawali village, was posted in the Sonipat traffic wing for the last two years. He returned to his government quarters around midnight after completing his shift. While his wife was in the kitchen preparing a meal, she heard a gunshot from his room. Upon rushing inside, she found him with a bullet wound to the temple.

In a desperate attempt to save him, she tied a chunni (scarf) around his head to stem the bleeding, but Singh succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Police teams reached the location promptly and recovered the service revolver from the scene. No suicide note was found at the site, adding to the mystery surrounding the incident.

Ongoing Investigation

Officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing, with a focus on analysing Singh's call records and recording his wife's formal statement to determine a possible motive. The police are exploring all angles to understand the circumstances that led to this tragic event.

The deceased is survived by his wife, a daughter who was married last year, and a son, Atul, who is currently studying abroad. Singh's body has been placed in the mortuary of the local civil hospital. The postmortem and last rites will be conducted once his son returns to India, as per family wishes.

This incident highlights the need for mental health support and stress management within law enforcement agencies. The Haryana Police have not yet released an official statement regarding the case, but sources indicate that a thorough probe is underway to ensure all facts are uncovered.
