Haryana STF Arrests Deepak Nandal Gang Shooter After Encounter in Gurgaon

The Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana Police made a significant breakthrough on Tuesday by arresting a key member of the notorious Deepak Nandal gang following an intense encounter near Bandhwari village in Gurgaon. Police identified the arrested individual as Nivesh alias Dilla, who is described as one of the primary shooters of the gang, operating under the direction of Nandal from abroad.

Encounter Details and Arrest

Nivesh, a resident of Jajal village in Sonipat district, was apprehended in the early hours after he opened fire on a police team that was attempting to intercept him. According to officials, the STF acted on specific intelligence inputs received on April 13, which indicated that Nandal had tasked Nivesh with carrying out a firing at the office of a Gurgaon-based businessman for extortion purposes. In response, the STF team set up a blockade near Bandhwari.

At approximately 12:50 AM, police signaled a motorcycle rider to stop. Instead of complying, the suspect tried to flee and fired multiple rounds at the team. In self-defence, police returned fire, overpowering the accused. During the exchange, Nivesh sustained a bullet injury in his leg. He was later admitted to Civil Hospital in Sector 10 for medical treatment. An illegal pistol was seized from his possession, confirming his involvement in criminal activities.

Police Response and Safety Measures

The encounter highlighted the dangers faced by law enforcement officers. Two bullets struck the bulletproof jackets of sub-inspector Vivek and probationary sub-inspector Vikas, preventing serious injuries. This incident underscores the importance of protective gear in high-risk operations. Police officials praised the quick thinking and bravery of the team, which ensured no casualties among the officers.

Legal Charges and Criminal Background

A case has been registered against Nivesh under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act at DLF Phase-1 police station. The charges include attempt to murder, voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant, assaulting a public servant, and obstruction of official duties. During preliminary questioning, police discovered that Nivesh was an active member of the gang, involved in supplying weapons for previous incidents.

He is suspected of facilitating weapons in a firing incident in Karnal and a February 2026 case where shooters targeted a businessman on Golf Course Road in Gurgaon. Nivesh was also wanted in connection with an FIR registered on February 26, 2026, at the same police station, linking him to ongoing criminal investigations.

Gang Network and Ongoing Investigations

STF officials stated that interrogation is currently underway to gather details about other members of the Deepak Nandal gang and its broader network. This arrest is part of a larger crackdown on organized crime in the region. Last year, Nandal was named in three FIRs in Gurgaon alone, including cases related to the firing on rapper Rahul Yadav alias Fazilpuria's car, the contract killing of property dealer Rohit Shokeen, and a shooting at MNR Buildmark's office in Sector 45.

The STF's efforts aim to dismantle the gang's operations and prevent further criminal activities, emphasizing the commitment of Haryana Police to maintaining law and order in the area.
