Haryana STF Deports Gang Associate Dinesh Mittu from Cyprus

Hisar: In a major crackdown on transnational organised crime, the Haryana Special Task Force (STF), with the assistance of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has successfully secured the deportation of Dinesh alias Mittu from Cyprus to India. The 29-year-old alleged gang associate is wanted in multiple criminal cases, including the high-profile Mahindra showroom firing incident in Hisar. This is the 11th deportation or extradition carried out by the STF in 2026.

Background of the Accused

According to the STF and Hisar SP Siddhant Jain, Dinesh, a resident of Khairampur village in Hisar district, had been actively associated with organised criminal networks for several years. Investigators claim he was a key associate of the Kala Khairampur gang and had links with other criminal syndicates operating across northern India. The Kala Khairampur gang faces several criminal cases in different districts, including charges of murder, attempted murder, extortion, organised crime and illegal possession and use of firearms.

Role in Extortion and Recruitment

Preliminary investigations suggest that while residing in Cyprus, Dinesh allegedly facilitated extortion-related threat calls through an illegal dabba calling network. According to police, such communication systems are often used by gang operatives to conceal their identities and locations, enabling criminals operating from overseas to evade law enforcement surveillance. The STF believes Dinesh played a broader role in expanding the gang's network. Apart from acting as a conduit between overseas handlers and local operatives, he is accused of recruiting young individuals and other criminals into the organisation, strengthening its reach across multiple regions.

Involvement in Mahindra Showroom Firing

Investigators are expected to question him regarding his criminal contacts, financial transactions, overseas connections and his possible involvement in other cases during police remand. According to STF officials, Dinesh was one of the principal conspirators in the firing incident at a Mahindra automobile showroom in Hisar in 2024, allegedly carried out to extort money from the business establishment. An FIR (No. 299) was registered at City Police Station, Hisar, and arrest warrants had been issued against him in the case.

Extradition Process

During the investigation, authorities discovered that Dinesh had left India for Cyprus in 2020. To facilitate his return, the STF initiated a Look Out Circular (LOC) and pursued the issuance of an Interpol Red Corner Notice through Bharatpol and central agencies. After confirming his presence in Cyprus, Indian authorities coordinated with international counterparts to complete the deportation process.

Commitment to Combating Organised Crime

The Haryana STF stated that with Dinesh's return, a total of 11 fugitives linked to organised crime syndicates have been deported or extradited to India in 2026. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to tracking and bringing back absconding criminals from foreign jurisdictions through national and international cooperation.
