In a brazen daylight attack that has sent shockwaves through Northeast Delhi, a known member of the infamous Hashim Baba gang was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the bustling Seelampur area on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as 28-year-old Shahrukh, was ambushed near the Seelampur metro station around 3:30 PM when four assailants riding two motorcycles opened fire at close range. Eyewitnesses reported hearing at least eight to ten gunshots that created panic in the crowded marketplace.
Chaotic Scene in Crowded Marketplace
According to police officials who rushed to the spot, Shahrukh sustained multiple bullet injuries and was declared dead at the scene by medical professionals. The assailants managed to flee the location immediately after the shooting, taking advantage of the chaos that ensued.
"This appears to be a case of inter-gang rivalry," stated a senior police officer from Northeast Delhi district. "The victim had several criminal cases registered against him and was a known associate of the Hashim Baba gang. We have formed multiple teams to identify and apprehend the culprits."
Criminal Past and Ongoing Investigations
Police records reveal that Shahrukh had a substantial criminal history with cases including:
- Armed robbery
- Attempt to murder
- Extortion activities
- Multiple arms act violations
Forensic teams have collected crucial evidence from the crime scene, including empty cartridges that are being analyzed to identify the weapons used in the attack. The local police have increased patrolling in the area and are conducting raids at suspected hideouts of rival gang members.
Residents Voice Security Concerns
Local residents expressed deep concern about the deteriorating law and order situation in the area. "This is becoming a regular occurrence," said Mohammed Asif, a shopkeeper near the crime scene. "Innocent people could have been hurt in this shooting. We need stronger police presence and better security measures."
The Seelampur shooting marks the latest incident in what appears to be an escalating turf war between rival gangs in Northeast Delhi. Police authorities have assured the public that they are taking all necessary measures to prevent further violence and bring the perpetrators to justice.
