Haveri Lokayukta Police Arrest Assistant Engineer in Bribery Sting Operation

In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Lokayukta police in Haveri district have apprehended B Mithunagouda, an assistant engineer working for the Hubli Electricity Supply Company (Hescom). The arrest occurred in Guttal town, located within Haveri taluk, while Mithunagouda was allegedly accepting an illegal bribe to provide an official report on the completion of layout work.

Details of the Bribery Case

The accused, who served as the branch officer of Hescom in Guttal, is reported to have demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a contractor. This payment was requested in exchange for issuing a report that would confirm the completion of work related to Sai Layout in Guttal town. The Lokayukta police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a meticulously planned raid at Hosamani Siddappa Circle in Haveri city.

During the operation, which took place on Friday, officers caught Mithunagouda red-handed while he was accepting the bribe from the contractor. He was immediately taken into custody, and the investigation into the case is currently ongoing to uncover any further details or potential accomplices.

The successful sting operation was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Madhusudhan C, who coordinated the efforts to ensure a swift and effective arrest.
