Major Counterfeit Urea Racket Busted in Hazaribag District

In a significant crackdown on illicit manufacturing, a police team from Hazaribag district conducted a late-night raid on Friday, recovering a substantial quantity of counterfeit urea solution. The operation took place in Harhad village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station.

Raid Based on Specific Intelligence Input

Acting on a formal complaint, authorities executed the raid with precision. Roshan Kumar Burnwal, the officer-in-charge of Mufassil police station, provided details on Saturday. "We received a complaint from Sunny Ghosh, an investigation officer representing the affected company," Burnwal stated. "Based on this specific input, we conducted the raid in Harhad, leading to the seizure of counterfeit materials."

Extensive Seizure of Fake Products and Manufacturing Materials

The haul from the raid was extensive and included a variety of items used in the production and distribution of the fake urea solution, known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). Police recovered:

  • 10 bottles of counterfeit DEF
  • 20-litre sealed buckets
  • 51 empty buckets
  • 174 lids
  • 21 handles
  • 76 hologram stickers

In addition to these items, authorities also seized 11 containers filled with fake DEF from another company, along with 262 empty buckets and 90 lids. The seized products were found to be fraudulently labeled with the brand names of two prominent companies, indicating a sophisticated operation to pass off the counterfeit goods as genuine.

Nature of the Counterfeit Product and Its Impact

DEF is a urea-based solution critical for modern diesel vehicles equipped with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems. It plays a vital role in reducing harmful nitrogen oxide emissions, helping vehicles meet environmental standards. The counterfeit urea being sold in the market not only defrauds consumers but also poses risks to vehicle performance and environmental compliance.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were actively selling this counterfeit urea, misleading buyers by presenting it as authentic products from reputable companies. This deception undermines market integrity and consumer trust.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

An FIR has been officially registered against Tausar Alam and another currently unnamed accused. Officer Burnwal emphasized that the investigation is far from over. "Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other culprits involved in this racket," he confirmed. The police are diligently working to uncover the full extent of the operation and bring all responsible parties to justice.

This bust highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat counterfeit goods that threaten both economic stability and public safety. The seizure serves as a warning to those engaged in similar illicit activities across the region.
