Two senior judges from the Punjab and Haryana High Court conducted a detailed inspection in Hisar on Friday to oversee the arrangements for the upcoming visit of the Chief Justice of India (CJI), Justice Surya Kant. The visit, scheduled for January 9 and 10, 2026, is highly anticipated as it marks a homecoming for the CJI, who began his legal career in the Hisar courts.
High-Level Meetings for a Landmark Event
Justices Harsimran Sethi and Alka Sarin led the review process, holding crucial meetings with a wide array of stakeholders. They met with district judicial officers, the district administration led by Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan, and key office-bearers of the Hisar Bar Association. The discussions centered on security protocols and logistical preparations to ensure the two-day programme proceeds smoothly.
The judges, accompanied by District and Sessions Judge Alka Malik and bar association leaders, also convened a meeting with judicial officers at the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology. The bar association delegation included President Advocate Sandeep Boora, Secretary Advocate Sameer Bhatia, Vice-President Advocate Vikas Poonia, Joint Secretary Advocate Sunil Kumar Bhardwaj, and Treasurer Advocate Sunil Kumar Sahdev.
A Grand Welcome and Court Inaugurations Planned
Advocate Sandeep Boora revealed that the Hisar Bar Association plans a special felicitation ceremony on January 9, 2026, to honour the CJI. "We will accord him a grand and dignified welcome," Boora stated, adding that Justice Surya Kant will address the advocates during the event.
The core of the CJI's agenda involves the inauguration of new judicial infrastructure. On January 10, he is scheduled to inaugurate new judicial courts in the newly created subdivisions of Barwala and Narnaund, which fall under the Hisar Sessions Division. Additionally, he will inaugurate the proposed new advocates' chamber block, a significant upgrade for local lawyers.
Focus on Expanding Advocate Chambers
During the review, a significant directive was issued concerning the ongoing chamber project. In the presence of Justice Harsimran Sethi, who chairs the High Court Building Committee, Senior Architect Aman Jain from the Chief Architect's office was instructed to collaborate with the Hisar Bar Association. The mandate is to examine the feasibility of constructing additional chambers alongside the already proposed 316 chambers and to speed up the project's completion.
This preparatory visit underscores the importance of the CJI's upcoming trip, which blends ceremonial honour with substantive development work for the judiciary in the Hisar region. The event is set to be a historic moment for the local legal community, celebrating the journey of one of their own to the pinnacle of the Indian judiciary.
