Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday ordered a judicial inquiry into the death of advocate Jagriti Shukla, who died after a road accident and alleged medical negligence. The inquiry will be conducted by retired High Court judge Justice Arun Tandon.
Court Directives on Protests
The division bench of Justice Salil Kumar Rai and Justice Swarupama Chaturvedi also directed lawyers not to stage road blockades and asked doctors to refrain from going on strike. The court was hearing two Public Interest Litigations (PILs) filed by Amit Kumar Singh alias Sonu and Mamta Singh.
Background of the Case
Jagriti Shukla suffered serious injuries in a road accident on May 20 and was admitted to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, associated with Motilal Nehru Medical College. Lawyers alleged she was not given prompt medical attention and faced rude behavior from junior doctors, leading to a confrontation and violence at the hospital. She was later shifted to a private hospital and then referred to SGPGI in Lucknow, where she died.
Allegations of Unfair Probe
The petitioners claimed that the investigating agency was not conducting a fair probe and that attempts were being made to shield the medical personnel involved. The court had earlier on June 9 directed the state counsel to update on the progress of the criminal investigation.
FIR and Initial Response
An FIR was lodged by a woman advocate from the Allahabad High Court Bar Association who had accompanied Shukla to the medical college after the accident. The court's order aims to ensure a thorough inquiry and maintain peace.
