The Andhra Pradesh High Court has intervened in the mysterious disappearance of a Vijayawada man, directing the police to produce him before the court by June 29. The case involves Gade Sai Krishna, a resident of Krishnalanka in Vijayawada, who faces multiple criminal charges. His mother, Vijayalakshmi, filed a habeas corpus petition, alleging that Krishnalanka police took her son into custody from Markapur, where he had been living, but failed to present him before a lower court thereafter.
Court Proceedings
During the hearing, Assistant Government Pleader Krishna Praneeth informed the court that Sai Krishna’s whereabouts remain unknown and that special police teams have been formed to trace him. He requested additional time to locate and produce him before the court. The petitioner’s counsel, K.V. Aditya Chowdary, argued that the family fears Sai Krishna may have suffered harm while in police custody. The court was told that the petitioner suspects police torture could have led to his death.
Court Directive
A division bench comprising Justice R. Raghunandan Rao and Justice T.C.D. Sekhar took note of the submissions and directed the police to ensure Sai Krishna’s presence before the court on or before June 29. The matter has heightened concerns over the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and the ongoing police investigation.
