HC Seeks Deceased Details for Compensation in Goa Fire

The Bombay High Court on Monday directed that details of deceased employees of Birch by Romeo Lane be placed before it to decide on compensation for their families. The court instructed amicus curiae Rohit Bras de Sa to submit comprehensive information about all employees who perished in the December 2025 fire, including their ages, dependent details, job designations, and employment types.

Legal Aid for Victims' Families

The high court also directed the Goa State Legal Services Authority to appoint an advocate under free legal aid to represent the victims' families in the case. This move aims to ensure that the bereaved families receive proper legal representation during the proceedings.

Suo Motu PIL on Illegal Structures

In December, the court registered a suo motu Public Interest Litigation following the fire that killed 25 people at the Arpora nightclub. The PIL addresses the broader issue of commercial establishments operating from illegal structures across the state.

The court has asked coastal panchayats and municipalities to submit details of construction licenses, occupancy certificates, and trade licenses issued to commercial establishments. This is to identify and take action against any illegal commercial operations.
