Bombay High Court Directs Kolhapur District Court to Submit CCTV Footage in Lawyer Assault Case

Advocate Swaroop Karade, representing the petitioners, articulated serious concerns about the state's failure to protect legal professionals. "The lawyer who was attacked was performing her professional duty, and the government machinery failed to provide appropriate security to her," Karade stated. He emphasized that the PIL addresses critical issues such as inadequate security within court premises, delayed FIR registration, and the absence of a comprehensive legal framework for advocate protection in Maharashtra.
Kolhapur SP Yogeshkumar Gupta appeared before the bench during the hearing, which commenced around 4 PM on Monday. The bench directed Gupta to conduct a thorough review of security arrangements at the district court and implement measures to ensure adequate protection for lawyers and court officers.

An estranged couple engaged in a heated argument outside the courtroom, prompting intervention from their lawyer. The lawyer, who is representing the husband in the divorce case while his lawyer-wife handles the matter, advised the couple to refrain from quarreling on court premises.
This intervention reportedly infuriated the litigant woman, leading to an alleged physical assault where she slapped and verbally abused the lawyer. The incident has raised significant concerns about safety protocols within judicial complexes and the vulnerability of legal practitioners while performing their duties.
