Himachal Police Cracks Down on Interstate Drug Supply Network, Apprehends Kingpin from Chandigarh

In a significant breakthrough against illicit drug trafficking, the Shimla police have successfully busted a major interstate drug supply network, culminating in the arrest of the alleged kingpin from Chandigarh. This operation marks a crucial step in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics distribution across state lines.

Key Arrest and Identification of the Accused

The primary accused has been identified as Sanjay, also known by the alias Ganji, who is a resident of the Mauli Jagran Complex in Chandigarh. His arrest follows a meticulous investigation initiated after the earlier apprehension of three individuals involved in the same network.

Previous Arrests and Seizure Details

On March 12, the district police had already taken action by arresting three persons in connection with this case. The individuals arrested were:

  • Shubhan Khanna, hailing from Dheu village in Sarahan, Shimla.
  • Vikas Minj, a resident of Sundargarh district in Odisha.

During this initial operation, the police seized approximately 12.36 grams of chitta, a local term for heroin, from Rampur. A formal case was registered under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, against all accused parties.

Investigation and Uncovering the Supply Chain

Following the arrests of the three individuals, the Shimla police launched a thorough investigation to trace the backward linkages of the drug supply chain. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Singh provided details, stating that during the probe, it was revealed that Sanjay was the main supplier orchestrating the network.

Acting swiftly on this intelligence, a specialized police team was dispatched to Chandigarh, where they apprehended Sanjay. This arrest is pivotal in disrupting the flow of narcotics from Chandigarh into Himachal Pradesh and potentially other regions.

Ongoing Efforts and Future Actions

The police have emphasized that further investigation is currently underway to uncover the full extent of this network. Authorities are actively working to identify and apprehend any additional individuals who may be involved in this illicit operation. This crackdown underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety.

This development highlights the collaborative efforts of the Shimla police in tackling interstate crime, sending a strong message against drug peddling activities in the region.
