Hisar Court Delivers Verdict in 2021 Attempted Murder Case, Sentences Youth to Seven Years

In a significant ruling from Hisar, a local court has pronounced a sentence of seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 4,000 against a youth involved in a nearly four-year-old attempted murder case. The incident, which dates back to November 2021, involved the accused shooting his married former girlfriend after she resisted his attempts to forcibly abduct her.

Court Convicts Deepak, Acquits Co-Accused Due to Insufficient Evidence

Additional Sessions Judge Gagandeep Mittal presided over the case, convicting Deepak, a resident of Narnaund, for his role in the violent episode. However, in a parallel decision, the court acquitted the co-accused, Virendra, citing a lack of concrete evidence against him. This acquittal highlights the judicial emphasis on substantiated proof in criminal proceedings.

Background of the Case and Victim's Allegations

The case originated from an FIR registered by the Hansi City police based on a complaint filed by Poonam, a resident of Vikas Nagar in Hansi. According to her statement, Poonam was previously in a relationship with Deepak but had married another man, Manoj. After ending the relationship, she alleged that Deepak began harassing her and issued threats to kill her and her children if she refused to accompany him.

Details of the November 2021 Incident

On November 4, 2021, the situation escalated when Poonam was returning home in an auto-rickshaw with her mother, Rambai. As they neared their locality, Deepak and his accomplice arrived on a motorcycle and attempted to abduct her. When Poonam resisted, Deepak allegedly fired at her using a country-made pistol, resulting in injuries to her right arm below the shoulder. The accused then fled the scene on the motorcycle, taking the weapon with them.

Immediate Aftermath and Investigation

Upon hearing her mother's cries, Poonam's husband rushed to the spot and promptly took her to a hospital for medical treatment. During the subsequent investigation, police authorities were unable to gather sufficient evidence against Virendra, who had been initially named in the FIR. This led to his acquittal by the court, while Deepak was held guilty of the offence, underscoring the importance of thorough evidence collection in legal outcomes.
