Students of Khushi College of Nursing in Narnaund, Hisar, have launched a vehement protest, expressing deep-seated resentment over what they claim is a deliberate dilution of serious charges in the First Information Report (FIR) registered against the college management. This comes despite the police recording statements containing grave allegations of harassment and assault.
Allegations of Grave Misconduct and Police Response
The protest stems from an FIR lodged by Hansi police based on complaints from several nursing students. The students allege that the college chairman, Jagdish Goswami, took a student to a bathroom and attempted to disrobe her. However, the protesters assert that the police failed to invoke legal sections commensurate with the severity of the accusations.
The FIR was registered against college chairman Jagdish Goswami, his son Amandeep Goswami, and his wife under Sections 75(2) (sexual harassment), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 3(3) (common intention) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita. The students are demanding the inclusion of stricter sections, including those related to attempt to rape and criminal intimidation.
Detailed Student Testimonies Reveal Pattern of Abuse
Students stated that police recorded statements of 8–9 victims to base the FIR. The accounts reveal a disturbing pattern of alleged misconduct inside the hostel premises.
One student narrated that the chairman allegedly molested her, tried to remove her clothes, and later forced her to massage the feet of his favourite student. Another student claimed the chairman entered her hostel room late at night, removed her blanket, and made obscene remarks. Several others alleged that the chairman would routinely enter girls' hostel rooms at night, threaten students with cancellation of their degrees, humiliate them in public, and target those who complained.
One student revealed she had lodged a complaint in Narnaund back in 2024, but no action was taken. Allegations have also been levelled against the chairman's son, who is accused of threatening students during the ongoing protest. Some students alleged they were coerced into recording statements against their fellow protesters.
Bizarre Acts of Intimidation and Administrative Action
In a shocking revelation, some female students alleged that the college chairman placed an apple on their heads and fired arrows from behind, narrowly missing them. One student stated he asked her to look into a mirror with an apple on her head before shooting an arrow, which missed her by a very narrow margin.
Meanwhile, in a significant administrative move, the Narnaund SDM and newly deputed executive magistrate of the college has written to the Director of Medical Education and Research in Panchkula. The letter seeks the migration of affected students to other recognised nursing colleges, citing multiple requests from students desperate for relocation.
The situation remains tense as students continue their protest, demanding justice and stricter legal action against the accused. The statements of some victim students were recorded in court on Tuesday, marking a formal legal step in the ongoing case.
