History-Sheeter Escapes Police Lockup in Tuticorin, Cops Transferred

In a shocking incident of negligence, a 20-year-old history-sheeter managed to escape from the Meignanapuram police station lockup in Tuticorin on Sunday morning. The accused, identified as Tamilarasan, a resident of Tuticorin, has been booked in at least 11 theft cases and was arrested in connection with a two-wheeler theft case.

How the Escape Happened

According to police officials, Tamilarasan was lodged in the lockup of Meignanapuram police station. On Sunday, two policemen who were on duty reportedly fell asleep without properly locking the cell. Taking advantage of the situation, Tamilarasan escaped from the station around 7:40 am. The lapse came to light only after the policemen woke up and found the cell empty.

Immediate Actions Taken

Following the escape, police registered a case and launched a search operation to apprehend the fugitive. The district superintendent of police, C Madhan, took swift action and transferred the two policemen who were on duty during the incident to the armed reserve as a disciplinary measure.
