Horticulture Inspector Caught in Bribery Sting Over Mango Tree Permits
A senior horticulture inspector stationed in Kichha, within Udham Singh Nagar district, was apprehended by the vigilance establishment on Thursday. The arrest followed allegations that the official accepted a bribe of Rs 12,000 to authorize the felling of mango trees.
Complaint Leads to Vigilance Action
The case emerged after a complainant approached the vigilance department with a detailed account. The individual had purchased 16 mango trees from cultivators in Gaoghat village and needed official approval from the horticulture department to proceed with cutting them. According to the complaint, horticulture inspector Pawan Kumar demanded a bribe to process the necessary permit.
After verifying the allegations, vigilance officials orchestrated a trap operation. The accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in his office, as confirmed by an official statement. This swift action underscores the department's commitment to combating corruption in public service.
