Swift Police Action Leads to Encounter

The victim, identified as 40-year-old Baljit Singh, was a motorcycle mechanic from Kaloya village under the jurisdiction of the Tanda police station. He was murdered on Thursday, triggering an immediate manhunt by the police force.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sandeep Malik stated that police teams worked through the night and identified two suspects. Acting on specific intelligence, they learned that one of the accused, Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, also known as Maninder Saini, was moving in the area of Chautala village on Friday evening.

Suspect Opens Fire, Injured in Retaliation

According to the SSP's account, when a police team signaled a man on a motorcycle to stop, he attempted to flee. In a dramatic turn of events, the suspect opened fire on the police party. The police retaliated in self-defence, and in the ensuing exchange of fire, the suspect was hit in the leg.

Lakhwinder Singh was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment under police guard. His arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the case that unfolded over less than 24 hours.

Financial Dispute Emerges as Motive

Preliminary investigations conducted by the Hoshiarpur police have revealed that the fatal attack on Baljit Singh stemmed from a financial dispute. It has been established that the arrested suspect, Lakhwinder Singh, was the one who fired at the mechanic during the attack in Kaloya village.

While one suspect is now in custody, the police investigation remains active. Authorities are currently pursuing the second accused involved in the murder case to ensure complete justice is served.
