In a shocking and brutal incident, the decomposed and unclothed body of a 70-year-old woman was discovered in her residence in the Santoshpur-Mannapara area of Howrah on Friday. The victim, identified as Durga Mondal, was found with her hands and feet tied, and had suffered extreme torture before being murdered.

According to police reports, the elderly woman was subjected to horrific violence. Pliers were used to extract every single tooth from her mouth, and she was subsequently strangled to death. Additionally, her head was crushed, indicating a severe and deliberate assault. The body was found lying on the floor of her home, which was locked from the outside, raising suspicions about the perpetrator's familiarity with the premises.
Victim's Background and Family
Durga Mondal lived alone in the Howrah home. Her husband had passed away earlier, and her son, Debesh Mondal, is a former IT engineer who now runs a gold jewellery showroom in Hyderabad. Her daughters reside in their in-laws' homes, leaving the elderly woman without immediate family nearby. Family members had been unable to contact her by phone for the past four days, which prompted concern among locals.

On Friday, neighbors detected a foul stench emanating from the house and found all doors locked from the outside. Peering through a window, they spotted the body and immediately alerted authorities. Subimal Paul, Superintendent of Howrah Rural Police, stated, "A murder case has been registered. A search operation is underway to find the culprits." The body has been sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.
