Howrah Police Recover Murder Weapon in Promoter Killing Case

In a significant breakthrough, the Howrah City Police have successfully recovered the firearm used in the fatal shooting of promoter Shafiq Khan. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning at the bustling Bhaggu crossing on Pilkhana Second Lane, under the jurisdiction of Golabari police station.

Weapon Found Hidden in Water Tank

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Amlan Kusum Ghosh confirmed to sources that two modern pistols and two magazines, directly linked to the killing, were discovered concealed inside a water tank. This tank was located at the Bowbazar residence of Md Wakil, also known as Munna, an associate of the prime suspect, Harun Khan.

According to police statements, Harun Khan and his accomplice Rafakat Hossain, alias Rohit, allegedly handed over the weapons to Wakil while making their escape from the crime scene. During subsequent interrogation, Wakil disclosed the precise hiding location, leading to the recovery.

Multiple Arrests and Investigation Leads

The police operation has resulted in the arrest of four individuals so far. In addition to Md Wakil, authorities apprehended Md Aslam, an aide of Rohit, from the Metiabruz area. Investigators stated that Aslam was present at Pilkhana during the time of the murder.

Furthermore, it was revealed that after the killing, Harun and Rohit reportedly sought refuge at a secret hideout in Jorabagan belonging to Wakil. There, they held a gathering with two other known criminals, Md Bilal and Dildar Hossain.

Interrogation of the four arrested individuals has provided crucial leads. Police suspect that Harun and Rohit may have fled by road, possibly to another state, using an SUV arranged by Bilal. However, they are also considering the possibility that the duo could still be hiding within Kolkata or a neighboring district.

Additional Evidence and Family Liaison

During the search of Wakil's residence, police also seized fake passports and other suspicious documents, broadening the scope of the investigation beyond the immediate homicide.

In a related development, Deputy Inspector General (CID) Indra Chakraborty visited the home of the deceased promoter, Shafiq Khan, on Friday. He spoke with the victim's mother, Mustari Begum, his brother Zahir Khan, and his wife, offering condolences and gathering further information.

The investigation remains active as authorities continue their pursuit of the main suspects, Harun Khan and Rafakat Hossain, while piecing together the full sequence of events leading to this violent crime in Howrah.
