Hubballi: Five persons, including a six-month-old infant, sustained injuries after a man allegedly attacked his wife and her two sisters with acid at Tarihal village, under Hubballi Rural police station limits, on Saturday.
Incident Details
Police identified the accused as Suresh Bail Pattar, 33, a resident of Vajapayee Nagar in Tarihal. According to villagers, Suresh was in the habit of frequently clicking photographs of his wife Rajeshwari's sisters, Shruti and Reshma. Rajeshwari objected to his behaviour, leading to frequent quarrels between the couple.
On Saturday, an argument escalated, during which Suresh allegedly threw acid on Rajeshwari and her sisters. In the incident, the acid also splashed on the infant and on Suresh himself, villagers said.
Hospitalisation and Investigation
Hubballi Rural police, who visited the spot, said all the injured were rushed to KMC-RI Hospital in Hubballi. The condition of Suresh and Rajeshwari is stated to be critical.
“We have registered a case and are investigating the incident. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Suresh was involved in work related to copper and brass vessels and used acid to clean metals. He allegedly used the same acid to attack the victims,” the police said.
The police have launched a detailed investigation into the matter, and further legal proceedings are underway. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns over domestic violence and the misuse of hazardous substances.
