Hubballi Police Conducts High-Profile Parade of Rowdy Sheeters, Issues Firm Warning
In a bold move to reinforce law and order, the Hubballi-Dharwad Commissionerate organized a significant parade of rowdy sheeters at the Old CAR Ground on Karwar Road this Thursday. Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar personally oversaw the event, which involved more than 500 individuals with criminal records, delivering a stern warning against engaging in any illegal or anti-social activities.
Strict Measures and Immediate Action Taken
During the parade, Commissioner Kumar demonstrated zero tolerance for non-compliance. When one rowdy attempted to escape without attending the event, he was immediately taken into custody on the spot. The commissioner ordered his arrest and subsequent remand in judicial custody, sending a clear message about the consequences of defying police directives.
Commissioner Kumar emphasized that the parade was a strategic initiative to strengthen public safety in the twin cities. "This parade was organized by bringing together rowdy sheeters from various police stations across Hubballi and Dharwad," he stated. "Such events are crucial for understanding the backgrounds of these individuals and closely monitoring their activities to prevent crime."
Background and Ongoing Monitoring Efforts
Providing context to the situation, Commissioner Kumar revealed that a total of 1,320 rowdy sheeters had been registered by 2026. Of these, 816 sheets have been closed, leaving currently only 510 active rowdy sheeters in the twin cities. He assured that strict surveillance is maintained on all these individuals, with authorities actively preparing a list of those slated for deportation to further curb criminal elements.
The commissioner also instructed officials to take necessary action against some rowdies under the stringent Goonda Act, highlighting the legal tools available to combat organized crime and maintain urban security.
High-Ranking Police Presence at the Event
The parade saw the attendance of several senior police officials, underscoring its importance. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Shruti SN and DCP (Traffic and Crime) Raveesh CR were present, along with inspectors from all police stations in the jurisdiction. Their collective presence reinforced the department's unified commitment to tackling rowdyism and ensuring citizen safety.
This proactive approach by the Hubballi-Dharwad police aims to deter criminal behavior through visible enforcement and continuous monitoring, setting a precedent for law enforcement strategies in urban areas.
