The investigation into the murder of advocate Khaja Moizuddin in Hyderabad has uncovered that a complaint filed in 2023 by the victim against Mahboob Alam Khan, alleging financial irregularities in the Waqf committee, led to Mahboob losing his position. The existing committee was dissolved, and a new committee was formed in 2025, with Khaja appointed as treasurer. This development is believed to have been the triggering factor behind the conspiracy to kill Khaja.
Background of the Dispute
According to an investigator, the removal of Mahboob Alam Khan and the appointment of Khaja as treasurer did not sit well with Mahboob and his son Mujahed. They developed a personal grudge against Khaja. The dispute further intensified over a 10,000-square-yard Waqf land parcel in Malakpet, which had been leased to a finance company. Mahboob opposed the lease and challenged it in court, while Khaja supported the leasing and took up the legal battle on behalf of the opposing faction. This led to multiple cases and counter-cases being registered at the local police station, along with altercations between the rival groups.
Conspiracy to Eliminate the Advocate
Frustrated by the frequent legal battles and what they perceived as Khaja's interference, Mahboob and his son allegedly conspired to eliminate the advocate. Mujahed contacted two individuals, Hasan Ali and Munner, to execute the murder. They, in turn, brought in Kishan, who was provided with Rs 2 lakh by Mujahed to purchase an SUV. The accused used this vehicle to monitor Khaja's movements.
Execution of the Murder
On the morning of May 23, the accused allegedly executed their plan by ramming the SUV into Khaja as he was about to enter his car. Police noted that the prime conspirators, Mahboob and his son, did not maintain direct contact with Kishan. Communication with the key executor was solely through Hasan and Munner.
Family Seeking Security
Meanwhile, the family members of Khaja are preparing to submit a representation to the police, requesting personal security for their safety.
