Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was put on high alert on Thursday after receiving two separate bomb threat emails, with the second one targeting an inbound IndiGo flight from Sharjah. Authorities swiftly activated standard safety procedures after the aircraft made a safe landing.
Second Threat of the Day Targets Sharjah-Hyderabad Flight
According to sources, the security scare unfolded on December 4, 2025. The airport's customer support email ID received a bomb threat message at around 2:00 PM. The email specifically mentioned IndiGo flight 6E 1422, which was en route from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to Hyderabad.
The flight in question, 6E 1422, continued its journey and landed safely at the Hyderabad airport at 3:15 PM. Upon landing, the standard operating protocols for such threats were immediately initiated by the airport and airline security teams.
Standard Safety Protocols Swiftly Activated
The established safety measures are designed to ensure maximum security without causing undue panic. Following the threat, authorities took several critical steps:
- The aircraft was immediately moved to an isolated bay away from the main terminal.
- All passengers and their baggage underwent thorough security screening.
- Emergency services, including fire engines, were put on standby near the aircraft.
- Sniffer dog squads were deployed to check the aircraft and luggage for any suspicious materials.
These comprehensive checks are part of the standard safety protocols followed by Indian airports to handle such security alerts.
A Repeat Incident on the Same Day
This incident marked the second bomb threat received by the Hyderabad airport on Thursday. Earlier in the day, another threat had targeted an IndiGo flight operating on the Madina to Hyderabad route. That earlier threat had prompted authorities to divert that particular flight to Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport for security checks.
The back-to-back threats have put security agencies on heightened alert. Investigations are underway to trace the origin of the threatening emails and determine the credibility of the threats. Such hoax calls and messages are taken extremely seriously due to the potential risk to human life and the significant disruption they cause to airport operations.
Passengers on flight 6E 1422 were safely disembarked after the security drill was completed. Airport officials have assured the public that all necessary precautions are being taken and that safety remains their utmost priority.
