Hyderabad: Elder Brother Arrested for Stabbing Younger Sibling to Death in Family Dispute

A tragic incident of fratricide has shaken the Osmanpura area under the Chaderghat police station limits in Hyderabad. A 22-year-old man was brutally stabbed to death by his own elder brother in the early hours of Wednesday morning, following a heated argument fueled by the victim's prolonged alcohol addiction.

Victim and Accused Identified

The deceased has been identified as Safdar Hussain, son of the late Hyder Hussain, a resident of Osmanpura. Safdar worked as a labourer at a lassi-making unit located in Moinabad. The accused, his 26-year-old elder brother Hashim Hussain alias Aslam Hussain, has been taken into police custody. Hashim is employed at a garments store in the Patherghatti area of the city.

Background of the Conflict

According to Chaderghat police inspector K Brahma Murari, the two brothers lived together at the same residence. The preliminary investigation revealed that Safdar had been consuming alcohol daily for the past six months. "Due to his addiction, Safdar was harassing his mother and other family members for money. He had multiple arguments with Hashim, who warned him several times to mend his ways," stated Inspector Murari.

The Fatal Morning Incident

The violent altercation occurred at approximately 5:30 AM when Safdar returned home in an inebriated state. He immediately picked up an argument with his family members. "During the argument, Hashim attacked Safdar in a fit of rage, stabbing him in the throat. With a severe bleeding injury, Safdar died on the spot in front of his house," the inspector detailed.

Police Response and Legal Action

Upon receiving information from local residents, police personnel rushed to the scene. A clues team was summoned to collect forensic evidence from the crime site. The victim's body was subsequently sent to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

A formal case has been registered under Section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, pertaining to murder, based on the complaint filed by the victim's family. The accused, Hashim Hussain, was reportedly apprehended by the police near his residence shortly after the tragic incident unfolded.

This case highlights the devastating consequences of substance abuse and unresolved family tensions, leading to an irreversible loss of life within a household.
