Hyderabad Businessman Shoots Second Wife Dead

A real estate businessman shot and killed his second wife at his residence in Malkajgiri during the early hours of Wednesday. The accused had been arrested three months earlier for possessing an illegal firearm while preparing to murder the victim.

Background of the Accused

The accused, D Arun Kumar, 48, a real estate businessman from Maruti Nagar in Malkajgiri, has two children with his first wife. Due to his first wife's long-term ill health, Arun separated from her and married her sister, Nishita Rani, also known as Nisha Rani, five years ago.

Motive for the Crime

Tensions developed between Arun and Rani as he suspected her fidelity. Following repeated disputes, Rani began living separately. Dissatisfied with Rani's conduct, Arun decided to kill her. Using his contacts, he obtained a country-made firearm from Munger in Bihar in March.

Previous Arrest

While Arun was plotting to kill Rani with the illegal firearm, Charminar Task Force police, in coordination with Amberpet police, arrested Arun along with his associates, Mohammed Abbu, 26, a pan shop owner from Yapral, and Mir Muzammil Ali Khan, 23, a student from Yakutpura, on March 9, 2026, at Ali Cafe X Roads in Amberpet. Police seized a country-made pistol, six live rounds, and a two-wheeler from their possession.

"We produced the accused before the court, and they were remanded to judicial custody. Arun spent more than 40 days in remand," said Amberpet inspector T Kiran Kumar. Police have not yet filed a charge sheet in the case because the alleged weapon suppliers have not been arrested.

The Murder

Late on Tuesday night, Arun contacted Rani and asked her to come to his house to discuss family issues. Police said that during the meeting, Arun fired at Rani in the early hours of Wednesday, and she died at the scene.

Police suspect that Arun was with another accused at the time of the murder. After the incident, both accused fled from the spot. Malkajgiri police launched a manhunt to nab them. Rani's body was shifted for post-mortem, and a murder case was registered.
