Hyderabad Cab Driver Suicide Over Marriage Fraud

Hyderabad: The Hayathnagar police have registered an abetment to suicide case against a woman after a 28-year-old cab driver died by suicide at his home on May 12. The deceased has been identified as P Govardhan, a resident of Koheda.

Complaint and Incident Details

In her complaint to the police, Govardhan's mother, P Maheshwari, stated that her elder son returned home at 10:30 am on May 12 after completing his night duty and went to bed in his room. At that time, the complainant and her husband left for work, while their daughter, Devi, remained at home. As Govardhan did not come out of his room until evening and his mobile phone was switched off, Devi knocked on the door multiple times. Receiving no response, she forcibly pushed the door and managed to open it at 6 pm, only to find him hanging.

Suicide Note and Allegations

A suicide note was recovered in which Govardhan alleged that he was cheated by a woman named Saritha, who had promised to marry him. Additionally, Govardhan recorded selfie videos claiming that he had secretly married Saritha a few years ago and that they had a son together. He alleged, “But she gave away our son to someone else and married another man.”

Police Action

Based on the complaint and evidence, the police registered an abetment to suicide case against Saritha under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on May 13. Hayathnagar inspector P Nagaraj Goud stated, “We have handed over the body to the victim's family after the postmortem. The cell phone of the victim was seized and will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). We are collecting more details about the case and appropriate legal action will be initiated based on the evidence.”

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the emotional distress caused by alleged betrayal and fraud in personal relationships. Police are continuing their investigation to gather further evidence and ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the case.
