Hyderabad Dacoity Mastermind Arrested, Stolen Gold Recovered

In a significant breakthrough following weeks of investigation, the Malkajgiri police have apprehended the primary suspect in a violent dacoity that occurred at the residence of an elderly couple in Kowkoor, falling under the Jawaharnagar police station limits. The arrest has led to the recovery of a portion of the stolen property.

Incident Details

On May 12, the Jawaharnagar police received a complaint from Murali Mohan Narsipuram, a 68-year-old international arbitrator residing at Golf Enclave. He reported that their domestic helps, Rajesh and Sabina, along with their associates, had tied up the couple, sedated them with an intoxicant, and fled with 60 tola of gold ornaments, 15 kilograms of silver, $3,000 in cash, and two mobile phones.

Investigation and Arrests

Preliminary investigations identified the main accused as Meena and Rajesh, both Nepali nationals who had been working in India for several years. The duo, together with their associates, conspired to target the victims due to their elderly status. According to Police Commissioner B Sumathi, Meena facilitated the employment of her associate, Sabeena alias Sunitha, as a domestic help and introduced Rajesh as her husband on April 25. Once settled in the servant quarters, the gang studied the family's routine before executing their plan.

On the night of May 11, under the pretext of celebrating Sabeena's birthday, the gang gathered inside the bungalow. Those inside included Rajesh, Sabeena, Meena, Daniel Charoh alias Chang, and Samrat, while Biswal alias Viswal, Kamal Bahadur Chalaune, Jankar Bahadur Chalaune alias Shankar, and Kiran waited outside. After committing the robbery, they escaped in an auto and a scooter, later abandoning the scooter at Yapral.

Six special teams from the law and order, special operations team, and central crime station wings analyzed technical evidence and CCTV footage from 255 cameras. Acting on alerts, the police arrested Sabina, Biswal, Kamal Bahadur, and Jankar Bahadur on May 16 near the Rathifile bus station in Secunderabad. On June 5, Meena, Rajesh, Kiran (a native of Nepal), and Daniel (a native of Darjeeling) were caught at Bowenpally and remanded the next day.

Recovery and Background

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ch Sridhar stated, "We have recovered 38 tola of gold and nine kilograms of silver from the accused. Among them, Meena was earlier involved in a property offence at Moinabad police station in 2023." Following the incident, the police launched a citywide domestic help verification drive, recording details of 39,270 workers, including 1,276 Nepalis.

This case highlights the vulnerability of elderly individuals living alone and the importance of thorough background checks for domestic help. The swift action by the police has brought some relief to the victims, though the search for the remaining stolen items continues.
