A 27-year-old doctor was arrested in Hyderabad for trespassing into a place of worship at Kismatpur and resorting to vandalism. The accused was caught by the locals and handed over to the police.
Incident Details
At 11:30 pm on Wednesday, the accused trespassed into the place of worship at Dargah Khaleej Khan by scaling the boundary wall. He picked up the holy book along with five other religious books. After the theft, he got out of the place of worship and went to the nearby road intersection.
"En route, he picked up a plastic traffic cone from the roadside. The accused kept the holy scripture and other books inside the cone and set them ablaze with a lighter," a local resident told Rajendranagar police in his complaint. Locals spotted him immediately, doused the flames and roughed him up before calling the cops. The accused was shifted to Rajendranagar Police Station.
Response from Authorities
AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmat Baig visited the spot and spoke to the police. Under the supervision of Rajendranagar DCP S Srinivas, adequate force was deployed in the locality to prevent any untoward incident.
Background of the Accused
The accused was identified as a 27-year-old MBBS graduate who practised as a general physician at a hospital in Kismatpur. Family members reportedly told police that he has been suffering from mental health problems since the past few months.
Legal Action
During the early hours of Thursday, Rajendranagar police registered a case against the accused doctor under Sections 331(4) (Lurking house-trespass or housebreaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), 305(a) (Theft in a dwelling house, or means of transportation or place of worship, etc.), 326(f) (Mischief by injury, inundation, fire or explosive substance, etc.), and 298 (Injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) of the BNS on the complaint of a local resident.
Rajendranagar police said that they will produce the accused before the court after medical examination.
